Winnifred Frances Parlee
1914-2012
Parlee, Winnifred Frances, of Sussex, and formerly of Roachville,
passed away peacefully at the Kiwanis Nursing Home on January 15,
2012. Born in Hammond River, she was a daughter of the late Winfred
and Fannie (nee Dickson) Darling, and the wife of the late Laurence
Parlee. Winnifred was a member of Trinity Anglican Church. She
graduated from Rothesay Collegiate School, receiving the Governor
General’s Medal. She became a school teacher, teaching in
various schools in rural New Brunswick for seven years. She then
studied to become a registered nurse. She worked at the
Shriners’ Children’s Hospital in Montreal, and the TB
Hospital in Saint John. After seven years of nursing, Winnifred
thought she would “try” marriage. For the remainder of
her life, she revelled in her role as a wife and mom. Her joys
included: flowers, reading, and eating anything sweet. Winnifred is
survived by her sons: Philip Parlee (Charlene) of Sussex Corner, and
Terrence Parlee (Patricia) of Dartmouth; her sister, Muriel Loughery
of Saint John; her grandchildren: Lyndsay, David, Scott and Rachel;
her great-grandchildren: Deven, Delaney, and Jack; as well as by many
nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents and husband,
Winnifred was predeceased by her sisters: Margaret Roper and Alice
Henderson; and by her brothers: Lewis Darling, John Darling, and
Roland Darling. Visitation will be held at Sussex Select Community
Funeral Home on Tuesday January 17, 2012 from 3-7 pm; the funeral
service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church on Wednesday at 2:00
pm with the Venerable Archdeacon David Barrett presiding. Interment
will be held in the Church of Ascension Cemetery. Donations to The
Church of Ascension Cemetery, or a charity of your choice would be
appreciated by the family. On-line condolences are available at:
